Application Initialization Error when installing 22.0.0.209

New Here ,
Jul 19, 2016 Jul 19, 2016

Using Windows 10 Home ver 1511, 64 bit, Firefox 47.0.1, Flash 21.0.0.242, Norton 360 Premier ver 22.7.0.76

Upon installing version 22.0.0.209 it downloads exe file and tries to install, but returns an Application Initialization Error message. Checked firewall - OK. Checked Firefox - plugin enabled. Disabled Norton Identity Safe - same result. Disabled AdBlock - same result.

Downloaded offline version - same result. Checked forums - no additional ideas.

Other solutions please?

A couple of things as it seems odd using the offline installers.

1) reboot

2) try again with offline version

3) if not try right click, run as administrator.

Also, If you want to try the adobe flash player uninstaller prior to installing the NPAPI offline version its worth a try.

Uninstall Flash Player for Windows

I know those seem simple, but see if it helps out any?

Best Regards

I tried all that Carm01 said below and now I do not have, and cannot load, flash player. I will now follow what m_vargas said.

I was looking at the logs and from what I can make of them, did you attempt to re-install the offline version of flash ( NPAPI ) again and resulted in same error after you successfully ran the uninstaller?

Do you have a proxy set up in Firefox?

That is under settings - advanced - network - then click the 'settings' button next to connection.

Mine is set to use system and has nothing in the manual settings fyi I did see something about a proxy in one of those logs.

m_vargas know better how to read those logs though than I do so hopefully she can provide more information than I have.

Also regarding your AntiVirus, i know we have Symantec Endpoint as our AV and there are times where I have to whitelist an application ( file ) in order for it to run. Just because it is disabled does not mean anything when in my experience when it comes to symantec products. So white listing or approved applications; something like that as it did not even attempt to try to install possibly?

Best Regards

@fmap ,

I'd like to get the install log files from you to troubleshoot the 'application initialization error' on your system.  Please review the FAQ Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on Windows? and provide all files listed: FlashInstall.log, Adobe_ADM.log and Adobe_GDE.log, so that we can troubleshoot the issue.  Upload the files to cloud.acrobat.com/send using the instructions How to share a document.  Post the link to the uploaded files in your reply.   Thank you.

I have uploaded the logs at Shared Files - Acrobat.com

If this will take a while to fix, should I (& can I?) install the earlier version I did have; which was version 21.0.0.242?

Hi,

To further investigate this issue, can you please provide us the following verbose log files .

Create an empty text file named ADM.trace inside your %temp% directory (C:\Users\<YourUserID>\AppData\Local\Temp\).  The file extension itself is .trace, not .txt or anything else. Run the installer again and provide Adobe_ADM.log and Adobe_GDE.log files.

Thanks,

Eswar.

@fmap

Can you clarify "Downloaded offline version - same result"?  Are you getting the initialization error from the offline installer as well or is it a different error message?

Essentially the certificate validation is failing on your system.  It's possible some program is causing this.  The verbose logs )requested by my colleague) will provide us with more information and hopefully identify the culprit.
