It's probably something simple, but after downloading and installing Adobe Flash Player, I can't find it or get it to run / open a file. I am working on a Mac, running OSX High Sierra 10.13.6. Very confusing and frustrating ... I've tried downloading numerous times - all successfull - and installing it numerous times. I have restarted my browser after installation each time. If anyone can help, awesome. Thanks.

Flash Player plugin only works in the browser. It won't open files separately.

All browsers block/disable Flash by default and prompt the user to unblock/allow Flash when the browser detects the content requires Flash. See https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html for information on allowing/enabling Flash on the different browsers. If you're still having issues, I recommend contacting the content developer for assistance.

The flash player does not run an independent file. It only supports running a video in a browser.
Also, Your flash player is disabled by default. The browser gives you a choice to enable it once a supported media file is supposed to run in a browser.
@maria__1 has explained it correctly.
