Hi,

Our machine is having Chrome 49.0.2623.75 and we installed msi of Flash player PPAPI 25.0.0.127.
But when we check flash player version it is showing different version may be the inbuilt flash player version.
We tried deleting PepperFlash folder from localappdata and INSTALLDIR but still it is not showing 25.0.0.127 PPAPI.

We are getting 20.0.0 version in Adobe Help Link instead of 25.0.0.127

We need to create Flash player PPAPI for mass deployment. Please suggest how to take care this issue in the package.

OS: Windows10
Chrome: 49.0.2623.75

8.5K

Chrome 49 only uses the embedded Flash Player version.  It will not locate/use the non-embedded system PPAPI plugin installed at C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash.

Chrome 49 was more than one year old.  Google releases new Chrome versions regularly (.  It's highly recommended you update to the latest, most secure, version of Chrome, which will use the non-embedded system PPAPI plugin.

Ok, Thanks for your reply. I have two more clarifications required for below points.

1. Is there anything we have to do after installing Flash Player PPAPI if the version of Google Chrome 49.0.2623.75 is higher than this?.
Because you said  Chrome 49.0.2623.75 will not locate/use the non-embedded system PPAPI plugin.

2. If I use Google Chrome 54.0.2840.99 then will it locate/use the non-embedded system PPAPI plugin.

You could do one of the following:

  • rename the appropriate pepflashplayer_Version_dll to just pepflashplayer.dll and move it to the location that Chrome 49 is using.
  • Launch Chrome with the --ppapi-flash-path and --ppapi-flash-version parameters.  If this is a 64-bit OS, you'd need to ensure the path is the correct one (32/64-bit) to ensure Chrome loads the plugin.

I think Chrome 54 will use the system plugin, but can't be 100% certain and don't have a Chrome 54 installation to roll-back to verify.

But why go through that trouble?  You have Windows 10, which supports the latest version of Chrome.  Why not just install the latest version of Chrome?

Thanks for the information.

But we too have a Windows 7 machines where Chrome 49 is installed. So we were planning to update the Flash player for chrome by locally installing the Flash Player PPAPI.

You said Chrome V49 will not detect or locate locally installed Flash player PPAPI. Is it the issue with only Chrome V49 or version 49 and below?

Because we have multiple versions in our environment so need to plan accordingly.

LATEST

I don't recall in which specific version Google enabled the system plugin in Chrome, but it's definitely newer than 49.  This is a question for Google as it is their software and they are they are the ones that make the decision on which plugin to use.
