Enquiry about Adobe Media Streaming Server

Hi,

We are creating CBT's using Adobe Flash with Action Script 2.0. The output is .SWF files. Now we are having trouble to view these files to the client end server as the file size is large. Right now the particular file accessed is getting completely downloaded rather than getting streamed. Will the Adobe Media Streaming Server help in streaming these files at a faster rate ?

Do you realise that in only 12 months Flash Player will be gone forever? I say this because you are still making SWF files, and this is something to urgently migrate from, since your CBT will be useless very soon. Your entire business may depend on this.

Hey,

Does this mean that the Adobe Media Streaming Sever will not be able to help in stream .SWF files after 12 months ? And currently does Adobe Media Streaming Server support streaming of .SWF files ?

Adobe Media Streaming Server, whatever that is, will still be working, but if the client needs Flash Player, it will have stopped working. I'm assuming that you ARE using Flash Player, simply since you've posted in the Flash Player forum.

Hi,

Yes we are using Flash Player. So will their be any other way to view or use the already created CBT's after flash player is completely stopped ?

I don't know how you make your CBTs. It sounds as if you are using very, very old technology if you are using ActionScript 2. Maybe there is another deliverable. Or You may need to start again with your CBT, you have much work to do. Adobe's statement: https://theblog.adobe.com/adobe-flash-update/

Out of curiosity, what does CBT stand for in this context?  I'm guessing it's courseware related, but my cursory google search was not helpful...

Regardless, a couple things:

  • Flash is going away.  It's going to be incredibly hard for anyone trying to consume your content to actually do that if you're publishing it for Flash Player.  Background: https://theblog.adobe.com/adobe-flash-update/

  • If you're creating courses with Captivate or something, current Captivate versions allow you to output directly to HTML5/JavaScript.  You should definitely do that.

  • If you're looking at simply streaming non-interactive video, stream it as H.264 video, not SWF.  Adobe Media Server will totally let you do that, the videos will work great in modern browsers (and mobile devices) without requiring Flash Player, and it will just work.
