Failures to download Adobe Flash Player on Windows XP

As of today, I have been unable to download Adobe Flash Player updates. The download stops with an unspecified failure about 50% of the way through -- I don't even get to the installation point. It occurs in both Firefox and IE. I am using a Windows XP system, and updates prior to today have been trouble-free.

I have also uninstalled Flash Player and tried to reinstall it, but it failed in the same way which means I now have no working copy of it.

Is there some log or other information to help track down the cause?

I have enabled the ADM.trace advanced logging and looked at the results (I an IT support pro). It seems there is a problem with the binary signature validation, so a problem at your end!

The end of the Adobe_ADM.log is as follows :-

When you say "at your end", are you referring to Adobe or me? I'm assuming that you mean Adobe's end as you seem to have reproduced something similar.

How do I enable this logging myself?

This is the reply I thought I had posted earlier today, but apparently forgot to click 'add reply' or something.

The FAQ linked to below has the instructions to enable debugging on the Adobe_ADM.log file.

What is the name of the installer file you are using?

Are you using anti-virus software?  If so, which one, including version?

I'll need to review the installation log files to troubleshoot the failure.  Please read through the FAQ Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on Windows? and provide the 3 files listed.  Upload the files to cloud.acrobat.com/send using the instructions at How to share a document.  Post the link to the uploaded files in your reply.

Yes, I meant Adobe

For complete info, Maria, here are my full details

flashplayer26pp_ha_install.exe (so the correct type for the Opera as far as I can tell)

AVG Antivirus Free 17.4.3014, updated definitions 170614-0 (latest free version and updates for Win XP 32Bit)

The FlashInstall32.log log file does not exist, presumably as it doesn't get that far! (the only flash install log file in that folder is the FlashInstall.log for the older version 25 current installed). I searched the entire machine (including hidden and system) for the FlashInstall32.log filename, it is nowhere to be found.

I have also uploaded the full Adobe_ADM and _GDE  logs at Shared Files - Acrobat.com

Hi,

We've been able to reproduce the behaviour and are escalating to the online installer team.  The online installer downloads and installs Flash Player silently in the background.  The offline installer, posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows 7 and earlier page in the 'Still having problems' section is working fine.  Please use the offline installer until the online installer is fixed.

Thank you.

I'm using the online installer. My log files are uploaded to https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/9f62a254-b393-40dc-8448-4c4157f5f7c9

Shared Files - Acrobat.com

I am using AVG business edition (ver. 3556). I tried temporarily disabling it but it made no difference.

Thank you for posting the log file and the additional information on the anti-virus behaviour.  We have been able to reproduce and have escalated to the team that handles the online installer.  In the interim, please use the offline installer (I posted a link to it previously).
