We are testing Flash Player 9.0.159.0 and it doesn't seem to work in our LMS which is Learn.com.  Does anyone know if there are server settings that need to be changed?  The previous version 9.0.124.0 works fine.

None of the Adobe Flash 9 stuff works on modern Macs, either. We're running OS X 10.3, and online Adobe keeps refusing to play any selected items and instead keeps prompting us to download Flash 9. Yet when whenever we try to open it, Adobe only replies that it won't install because it "can't find the CLASSIC 9 SYSTEM" required! Huh? Classic 9?! Wow, that went out of date years ago, Adobe!

How in the heck would they confuse their own 2009 Flash 9 with Mac's ancient Classic 9 system from the 1990s??? The upshot is that of course all Adobe flash-related browser powers are null and void, even including all MySpace music playing, etc. Anyone have a workaround for this generic "install Flash 9" popup nightmare?

It would sure be appreciated!

Sorry we don't have Macs here so we haven't bumped into this but believe me I understand your frustration.

Flash Player 9 certainly runs on Mac OS.  You may have the wrong installer (it sounds like you have an old installer from before the player install was a universal binary).

Get the Flash Player 9 archive from the archived players technote at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html, unpack the right player and you should be OK.

For the LMS issues, you should probably open a support case with Learn, they've probably been down that road before.

We did talk to Learn and they said there were no known issues. To make this more interesting, even our .swf from Adobe Captivate don't play in Internet Explorer outside of the LMS.  We are struggling to find some reason why.  It doesn't seem to matter if the Flash file was published to 6, 7 or 8 they all don't work in 9.0159.0.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what else to look at?

Just out of curiosity have you tested FLash Player 10 to see if you get the same behavior?

I'm not much on LMS systems myself. But my first thought would have been "do the SWF's play by themselves". But if even your captivate SWF isn't working, that's wierd.

Actually at this point I'd say open a support case against the Adobe product these were built with and be prepared to provide at least the SWF files for testing.  Don't open it against Flash Player though, open it against Flash. You'll get a better result.

Okay, so here is what we discovered.  The packaged Adobe Flash Player Uninstall removes this key from the registry:

HKCR\MIME\Database\Content Type\Application/x-shockwave-flash

The key is not reinstalled with Flash Player 9.0.159.0.  When the key is added back everything works.   It looks like the key is added back in the Flash Player 10 install as well.  We aren't ready to go to 10 but by adding this key we can upgrade to the latest version of 9 that includes the security fix.  This will keep us running until we go to 10.

Thanks BWOLFE for your help.
