Actual error (with fake addresses because I get a different address each time it fails this way) is
CAPTION: iexplore.exe - Application error
TEXT: "The instruction at "0x99999999" referenced memory at "0x99999999". The memory could not be "written".
So far I have used the uninstall_flash_player.exe and tried the reset_fp10.cmd with the MS subinacl.exe tool. I have used a registry
scrubber (RegScrubXP) and re-tried all of the above. I still can not get the flash player to load and I still get the error each time I try. I have run IE8 manage add-ons and the flash player is not listed. I am at my wit's end, I have searched everywhere and tried everything. This is a brand new computer with very little other than MS products loaded. Nothing is loaded that is not loaded on my other 3 computers that run flash player 10 just fine. I have run complete diagnostics on mt Thinkpad t500 and all checks out.
Machine: Lenovo ThinkPad model 2242CTO
Processor: Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.53 Ghz
Operating System: Windows XP Professional SP 3
Browser: Microsoft IE 8

Hi Bentonit,
Thanks for reporting your experience. At what point in the installation process do you receive this error? Can you double check that your Internet Explorer is up to date?
If all else fails, I suggest running the Flash Player installer manually:

Chris, dude! I used the install program and I am GOOD! I am watching clips with it. Thanks.
I tried to find this and could only find links to the website that was failing on me. To answer your other question, I would click on one of those get Adobe Flash links, end up at the downolad site, ( http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ ) tell it I did not want the Google toolbar, and click "Agree and install now", then at the next screen the error would pop up immediately, before I could even click on the "allow" bar message.
Adobe could have saved me a lot of pain if they would just make the link you pointed me to easier to find.
Also, I suspect my problems started when I was watching a clip at you-tube. I tried to click on the HD button to see how that looked on my new HD display laptop and it freaked... I can't recall exactly what happened, I just know it failed and blew me away.
I have only had this box for 2 days & in answer to your other question, yes, I have applied all MS updates & I upgraded from IE 7 to 8 too right off the bat. It was working in 8 until it quit...
Thanks again!

That's awesome news! I'm happy that I could be of assistance.
Earlier this week, we rolled out the Adobe Download Manager (DLM) to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and there may be a few kinks that still need to be ironed out. In this case, the problem was probably caused by Internet Explorer which crashed before you even had a chance to install the DLM.
Do you mind sharing the specific version of IE8 you have? Just go to the question mark icon in the upper right corner and select "About Internet Explorer".
Thanks,
Chris

I had the same problem and all the information that has been submitted so far relating to IE 8 and error message was the same. I also downloaded the flash player from your link provided in this forum which resolved my problem with installation. I too was trying very hard to locate this link, as I also went through a lenthy process of uninstalling the player and I was also directed towards the DEP Data Encryption Protection part of windows XP that could be the problem of this memory error message

BigBear, Glad you found it... Why in the world they don't just add that link as a "If all else fails try this" to the download site is beyond me... It's like they're trying to annoy us! I spent hours messing with this and got so frustrated!!!

I know your frustration, I had my suspicions that this problem might be related to their new DLM Download manager as this problem started when I was notified through Kapersky that there was a security issue with FlashPlayer and to upgrade to the latest version to resolve it. When I tried to do just that I began receiving the error message and the lengthy process of getting rid of it. Thank you again for your initial post and acquiring the link to download the player seperately.

Maddening... Today it happened at facebook, I tried to create a photo album and when I went to do the first upload it wanted to run an add on and BAM! Same stuff... No answer for that one yet. IE 8 seems to have this problem and once it happens at a page, you are dead (there) until you find a workaround.

I had the same problem as previous described. Some how I lost Flash Player. The first indication I got was when I went to Utube site and tried to view aa clip. It came back with an error saying I had java turned off or Flash Player was not installed. It gave me link to install flash player and tried to install it and failed with memory written error. The error message also said it was coming from Abode DLM. I was also at the point that a banner appeared that said an Adove system was trying to install and add on DLM. This also caused IE to hang and it took quite sometime to close the IE to get out this hang condition with a bunch of error reports being sent to MIcrosoft. After going to Sun System and testing my Java which it said was ok, I tried to install flash player. Same thing happen.again. I download Flash Player uninstall and ran it. Tried install again. Same results. I found Adobe tech note how to uninstalled DLM. I found none of the modules that it indicated should be deleted. I tried installing Acrobat Reader which I already have on the system same error. I found this forum and tried manual loading of Flash Player and that worked. Now things are working ok except that if I try to download Flash player It still fails but the error has changed a little. I hear the beep to approve the install of DLM addon but IE fails cleanly and when I close the window said had the following error. I think the problem is DLM add on related.
I am running IE V 8.0.6.001.18702
