Hello, I am running Windows XP Pro 32 SP3 with Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) ver 8.0.6001.18702 and the latest Flash Player version 10.2.159.1. I also have installed the Shockwave Active X Control version 11.5.9 and get_atlcom Class version 1.6.2.102. All these addons are enabled. I can not view any flash content on any other websites via IE8. I have been browsing the forums and troubleshooting with different fixes from others but have not been able to fix the problem.
Firefox version 4.0.1 works fine with flash player.
I also have the same configuration on my corporate laptop (win xp pro SP3 32bit with IE8) and flash player does not work on it either. Again, Firefox works! I believe a compatibility issues exists.
Any ideas on IE8?
Many thanks!

Hi, Check the addons for both machines for the Shockwave Flash Object. Make sure it's Installed and Enabled.
Let me know if that doesn't correct the issue.
Thanks,

Addons were enabled. I tried uninstalling latest version and installing older version from archive and it does not work.
I installed
from filehippo.com.
When I go to the Adobe Flash Player home page the flash plays correctly. Youtube videos play. Some sites e.g. Abercrombie indicate my flash player is not installed, etc. This is really bizarre!

Hi, Well you had FP vs 10.2.159.1 and took that other poster's advice and Uninstalled the latest FP version. Then you tried to Install that old insecure version 9. That didn't work, so you Uninstalled that and now you've Installed the 10.3 which is a beta version. Is that about right?
And now FP is not working? Nothing bizarre about what you are now experiencing.
The Flash Player Installer writes to the Windows Registry, so who knows what is Installed now.
You may want to check your C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash Open Flash and see what is Installed.
Thanks,
eidnolb

There must be a ton of people trying to view this forum, as I am
having trouble getting it to load.
"C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash" This may be the crux of the problem, I was having. I thought it strange, while the computer was 64 bit, I was using IE 32 bit, yet, the Flash files would be found in the C:\Windows\SystemWOW64 file. I moved them over to the 32 bit file, but that did nothing. After I got the 9.*** version to work, I never looked back! One weekend of my life, is not well spent on such a project.

Hi cat-tek, This Forum is one of the most busiest. The Flash Player files are always Installed into the SysWOW64 location because you are using a 64bit OS. They don't belong in the 32bit location. Copying them over does nothing as you found out.
The Installer did what it was supposed to do. copying does nothing in the Windows Registry. Only the Flash Player Installer does that. Microsoft has designed Windows 64bit OS so that the 32bit browser can be used; And Adobe Flash Player designed it so it would work also. Adobe also by looking ahead with Square, designed Flash Player that way. You got in trouble trying to make Windows 64bit OS and Adobe Flash Player work "your way". Not a good idea. So please don't blame Microsoft or Adobe.
Always follow this: If you don't know, ask.

Sorry, but I can't agree. I tried to install the program as intended, yet it would not work! Beyond that, I was looking for problems with the computer and associated programs. Nothing would correct it. Yet, an older version loaded and worked with no problems!

I spent nearly all weekend trying to install a working version of the most recent version (10. ***) of Adobe Flash on my daughter's computer. The computer has Windows 7 and IE8. Nothing worked!, even after reading and following many of the online articles and doing many installs and changes. The Flash download would install, however it wouldn't open and run videos. In desperation, I tried one of the earlier versions (9.***) and the Flash player worked after the first install.
Flash Player 9.0.280 and higher (21.8 MB)

Hi cat-tek Since you are copying and pasting the same "solution" on other threads, I'm copying and pasting my reply to you on one of the other threads:
Hi cat-tek, Installing such an old version of Flash Player is not a good idea. Many websites no longer support it for one thing and you have no Security with that version! The bad guys are always looking for a way to Install Malware in unprotected Applications, old Flash Player versions, old Java and so on.
It would be better to Uninstall that old version and find out what the problem was with the FP vs 10.2.159.1. Adobe & Microsoft and all of the other Tech Companies work together:-) New Technology in Windows 7 and Flash Player work together.
Just some advice so you won't incur problems with your system:-)

eidnolb,
I will work with you from now on troubleshooting this issue. After looking in C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash I have the following files installed:
Flash10p.ocx
FlashInstall.log
FlashUtil10p_ActiveX.dll
FlashUtil10p_ActiveX.exe
genuinst.exe
install.log
KB923789.inf
mms.cfg
Per this website http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
"You have version 10,3,181,5 installed"

Hi, thanks:-) Your Flash Player files are all correct but for vs 10.2.159.1. But the test site is showing the 10.3 beta version.
Hmmmm. I wonder what the test site is checking.
If you don't mind, go back to the Flash folder and see if the beta version is showing on those. Right click to open and click on Properties to find out if just hovering the mouse doesn't indicate what vs each of the following: The first, second & third you've listed in this message.
Don't double click on that FlashUtil10p_Active.exe though. That is an executable file.
Then what version of the Shockwave Flash Object is listed in the manage addons?
Thanks,
eidnolb

I am on my home computer and version 10.2.159.1 is installed. Interestingly, it appears that it is installed correctly. I can view Youtube flash videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8tSMKGbnW0 and browse to the Adobe home page and view the flash. However, if I go to certain websites
It tell me to update my flash player. It works fine in Firefox.

Hi So the Flash files are reflecting vs 10.2.159.1. The main thing is that Shockwave Flash Object, I know it's Enabled and working, otherwise youtube wouldn't be working. However, did you check to see what version it is? That's very important since the websites use that.
The test site is looking at your Flash files when displaying the version of FP, but the websites are detecting the Shockwave Flash Object in the IE addons. Confusing? Yes:-)
And that would have a bearing on not being able to view the other sites you listed.
Let me know when you can.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Yes, I get the same.
With Firefox I see PLEASE UPDATE YOUR FLASH PLAYER very quickly, then it goes and displays the real content.
With IE it just remains on that update message. It is their website that is wrong, not Flash Player.

There are a gazillion posts on the Internet regarding this problem or a similar one with Adobe Flash Player 10.***. If you've had a Flash Version working on your computer or your are trying to install for the first time, you shouldn't have to reset everything possible on your computer, download new graphics drivers, etc., to make Flash Player download, install and run. IMHO There is something wrong with the program.

Hi cat-tek, I understand your frustration. Maybe you followed someone else's advice on Installing that old version. The internet is not the best place to find advice for Flash Player issues. This Forum is.
You'll find many "fixes" everywhere and even here sometimes. It's always better if anyone has a problem with Flash Player if they start a discussion. We that help here, don't travel to the Internet to find solutions. Perhaps for Malware/Anti-Virus info when needed, but not for Flash Player.
The solutions that you see on the threads are targeted according to the problem the person is having. This doesn't mean their problem or solution is for you. Why would I suggest you update your video card driver for example if you aren't have any video issues? Maybe an ActiveX Setting needs adjusted and so on.
If a person can't download and Install Flash Player, then that is addressed differently than someone that has FP Installed correctly but it's not working.
My suggestion to you for many reasons, is to start a discussion and let us take a look at the problem.
Thanks,
eidnolb
