i get as far as this. i have uninstalled as recommended. now there is no flash player at all.

What Mac OS version is this on?
We'll need to view a the FlashPlayerInstallManager.log and install.log files to troubleshoot. install.log file is a system-wide log file that logs various system information, we only need the portion pertinent to the Flash Player installation. Please review the FAQ Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on the Mac? and configure your system as metioned to get the pertinent log contents for both the install.log and FlashPlayerInstallManager.log files.
Upload both files to Document Cloud or any file sharing service of your choice that doesn't require account log in to access.
