FLVplayer disappears

I have an old laptop that came with vista.  I recently (and with a great deal of effort) upgraded it to windows 7.  I have tried to download adobe's flash player in order to play some videos that were previously downloaded as FLV.  The download appears to work, but I can't find the file.  When I try to open the video it does not list flash as an option

Flash Player isn't a video player, although you can build one on top of it.

You probably want a dedicated video player that supports FLV video. 

VLC is a good, free choice.
