Solved: How do I uninstall Flash player silently using com... - Adobe Support Community - 7312932

This appears to work for all flash versions even activeX embedded

  • uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall activex
  • uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall plugin
  • uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall pepperplugin

Microsoft Update Catalog this update worked when run stand alone but not did not work in SCCM

Are there any limitation or downsides to the

  • uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall activex which appears to work?

"Microsoft Update Catalog this update worked when run stand alone but not did not work in SCCM"

For questions on Microsoft's update, please contact Microsoft support

"Are there any limitation or downsides to the

  • uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall activex which appears to work?"

The only 'limitation' is that Adobe's uninstallers do not remove any browser-embedded version of Flash Player.  Those are managed by the browser vendor.

Just to make this totally explicit:

  • On Windows 8 and higher, Microsoft distributes a copy of the ActiveX Flash Player for use in IE and Edge.

The installation location for Flash on Win8+ is managed by Windows Update.  We can't write or remove files from those locations, and you'll need to use Microsoft's Flash Removal update to delete those files.  (It's also worth noting that once applied, this is a permanent change.)

You can read more on that here:

Microsoft Update for Removal of Flash Player for IE and Edge on Windows 8 and higher

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4577586/update-for-removal-of-adobe-flash-player

  • Google Chrome versions 87 and below bundle Flash Player as a built-in component.

Updating to Chrome 88 or higher will remove the Google-distributed copy of Flash Player bundled with Chrome.  Chrome 88 also removes the Pepper Plug-In API, effectively dropping support for all browser plug-ins moving forward.
