Sound stops working during flash video playback

Hi,

Recently I upgraded from a working version of Windows 7 to Windows 10, only to have various sound issues. I upgraded all drivers and solved 90% of the issues, except for sound randomly stopping during flash video playback in a browser Window. Having contacted Microsoft Support it was presumed a Windows Driver issue I downgraded back to my "working" version of Windows 7 - only now I have the same issue in the previously working version of Windows 7.

I have completely uninstalled Flash, reinstalled release 21, disabled hardware acceleration, cleared all cache/cookies all to no avail. I have tried watching both the HTML5 and non-html5 videos and the sound stops working on both. I have discovered that after the sound stops working, if I click go to flash settings and click on "microphone" tab then the sound will start working again.... until it crashes (this can be anything from a few seconds, to over an hour), however the sound issues appear more frequent on Filmon, as opposed to others such as Youtube.

The issue happens in Chrome, Canary and IE - however Chrome is my main browser. I have used the settings manager to delete all website privacy and storage files and changed the Global Storage Settings to 1MB all to no avail.

Give it a shot on Win7. Hopefully you get lucky. If not, things have gotten really messy, and it's hard to know where to even start.

Personally, I find that I always have much better results doing a fresh operating system install. Upgrades move any of the problems that existed prior to the upgrade forward to the new operating system, and there are an infinite combination of problems that could have accumulated between the initial installation of the first operating system and the upgrade to the current one that make it mathematically impossible to test every possible scenario. Having done an upgrade that didn't work out perfectly, tinkered around a bunch, then done an automated downgrade, it's doubly possible that things didn't go perfectly.

If you have the latest sound drivers installed for your machine after the Win7 downgrade, and the fix above doesn't work, I don't have a lot of good suggestions. There's a good chance that the problem you started with isn't the one you have now. While you could theoretically work with your PC vendor or Windows support folks to try and get things back to a good state, it would probably be far faster to just back up your critical data, do a fresh install of Windows 10, and then proceed from there.
