I've installed the standalone flash player so that one of my users may open her .swf files with that instead of a browser as this is her preference. After installing and setting this as the default program for .swf files everything seems to work fine for a couple of days and then out of nowhere, this just disappears and it reverts to IE as the default. I've reinstalled and set this up a few times now, but I'm having trouble finding a permenant solution.

Have you followed the instructions here for setting up the default program? http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ht/default-program-windows-7.htm
You're operating system should keep track of the default application that needs to be executed depending on file extention.

I have gone through that process each time. The problem that I am running into is that the standalone player keeps disappearing from the computer every couple days.

Hrmm. So it's not that it's changing the default program from Flash Player to IE but the Standalone is getting deleted itself?
Are you using the latest standalone player? Found here.
I'm not sure why yours is deleting itself.

I'm a little bit confused by this, as the standalone player (Projector) does not actually go through an installation process. The download from http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html is the player, not an installer.
Where did you put it? And you say the downloaded file just disappears from the computer?

I apologize for my confusion on that one. I have been dowloading the latest file, and you are correct there is no installation I'm just used to associating the Run pop up with installations. I've tried putting the file in a couple of different places including the desktop, the users documents folder, and directly within their C: drive but each time it will work for a little while and then just disappear.

That is really not normal: files/executables do not just disappear!
I suggest that you place it in a safe location (using an Administrator account):

Yeah this is the first time I have really run into this issue. I tried moving the file to the syswow64 folder after reading your response and just yesterday it disappeared again.

This is most unusual! "Something" is removing that file; could it be your antivirus software?
