what service pack do you have installed?

please clarify the comment "installation file install_flash_player.exe doesn't start."  Does it not launch at all?  Does the installer launch but then the installation doesn't start?  Is there an error?

xp 64bit SP2. For xp64bit no sp3 and sp4 (sp3 and sp4 only for xp 32bit). No error, because installation process will not even start. 2x click on the installation file and silence, nothing happens, installation process does not begin, file will not open. For xp 32bit all ok.

A similar problem occurs when you try to install IrfanView v 4.42 (older version 4.41 no problem).

For very old version FlashPlayer 19.0.0.245 no problem with installation for xp 64bit. All newer versions (newer than 19.0.0.245) FlashPlayer no longer want to install for xp 64bit.

It doesn't work because SP2 doesn't support the latest signing technologies, sha256.  On XP this support came with SP3.  This isn't only a Flash Player installer thing, as you mentioned you're experiencing the same with IrfanView.   Essentially you will experience issues with any application, or website, with a sha256 certificate.

Hi, I had the same issue but I managed to fix it. Windows XP Professional SP2 (Windows Server 2003) sometimes blocks programs from loading so you have to unblock them before they will run.

Here's how to fix it:

1) Right click on your Flash Player installation exe

2) Click on Properties

3) Click the Unblock button at the bottom-right of the properties window

4) Click Apply and then click OK

5) Attempt to run your installation file again

Hope this helped. (It worked for me)
