Autonumbering after a Table

For some reason, my autonumbering disconnects after a table. If I remove the table from the equation, the autonumbering goes back to normal. So, for instance, I have steps 1, 2, 3, then a table, then it should be step 4 but instead, the numbering starts over at 1.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming that your tables are numbered....

There are a number of different numbering streams (sets of counters) available in FM, but many people end up using one stream for all numbering.

The strings in the Step and Table tags' numbering strings probably look something like <$chapnum>.<n+>\t or <n>.<n+> . If they do, change them by inserting a unique stream identification letter and a colon at the beginning of each type of strings.

For instance, for steps, make it S:<$chapnum>.<n+>\t, and for tables, T:<$chapnum>.<n+>\t . That change puts each type of item on a different set of counters.

Hmmm...no numbering in the tables. Not even a table number. It's just a straight ol' table plunked in between steps.

There is a graphic above with a figure label, but I checked the tag and it clearly differentiates the numbering by calling for F:Figure <$chapnum>-<n+>.

My Step numbers are called out with an s:<n+>.\t

My Table labels are called out with a T:Table <$chapnum>-<n+>.

I tried inserting a new table (with nothing in it) and still get the same results.

Very curious...

Ah-HA! I figured it out and thought I'd post the answer to my own question in case someone else has the same mystery issue.

In my table, I had heading cells with a CellHeading Paragraph style. In the Paragraph Designer for that style, in the Numbering tab, I had selected the checkbox for Autonumbering, and in the field I simply had an s: --- this was what was causing my grief! As soon as I de-selected the Autonumbering checkbox and deleted that s:, all was right with the world.

How I figured it out was I had other tables without this problem until I copied the cell information from my mystery table to the new table. That lead me to the Paragraph style and there she was, plain as day. Go figure.

Thank you to Art Campbell for attempting to help. I really appreciate all the great folks who help on this forum. It's what makes the FM world go round. :-)
