Avoid hieroglyphs in TOC when using signs in the titles

When I insert signs (for example a ZapfDingbat arrow) in a title and this title is added the TOC, the result of this sign becomes a "hieroglyph". What is the solution to this problem ? Is it possible to hidden this sign only for the TOC ?

I use FM8 and FM9.

Thank you for your help

If you used a character tag for the inserted "sign" (symbol) and have the same character tag in your TOC file, then these should show properly. Otherwise, FM just uses the <$paratext> specified without maintaining the font overrides for the symbols.

If the special symbol comes at the end of your paragraph, you also should ensure that the character tag formatting gets turned off so that it doesn't inadvertently affect the page numbering (or whatever) in the TOC entry. You can use the </> building block to do this, e.g. <$paratext></></t><$pagenum>
