I need a barcode, specifically 'Code39one text'. Is there a place I can buy or download add-ins from? I'm on Framemaker 8 and windows 2000.

Lucinda,

If you Google ' "code 39" barcode ', then you can get several hundred
thousand hits, some of which include vendors.

Lucinda, pardon if you already know this, but ... barcodes are either created by specialized software, or they're obtained as pre-made image files by ordering them from a vendor.

edit: it is possible to use a barcode font, as well, but only if you understand how to "compose" the barcodes in the first place, and each type of barcode uses a different composition method.

I've used http://www.barcode-us.com several times to create pre-made image files, and they've always produced excellent results.

If you have Corel Draw, it has a tool that makes excellent barcodes. We use it all the time for ISBNs.

I'm remembering from having to do this a couple years ago that there is at least one online site that builds the barcode in real time for you and produces a graphic file that you can save... But I didn't save the link. I think it would pop with a some searching though.

Hi Lucinda,

in several projects I used barcode fonts created by will software very successfull

http://www.will-software.com/infos/barsoft.htm

http://www.will-software.com/infos/barc_39.htm

(Sorry website is German only, so prices are listed here: http://www.will-software.com/bestell.htm#barcode)

You don't need any other tools. Only type your Code 39  *345345* and assign a paragraph oder character format uses Code39-20 Font. I often use FM variables an put them on master page.

If you wanna have graphics there's a peace of software to create images too.

Hope this helps

Markus

Well, as long as we're responding to a 4 year old question, anyone needing Code 3 of 9 for Frame also needs to know if it's the
original Code39,
Code 39 mod 43,
"Full ASCII Code 39", or
is constrained by ANSI MH 10.8 M-1983, MIL-STD-1189 (obs.), or
ANSI/AIM BC1/1995, Uniform Symbology Specification - Code 39.

I've used a 1993 Code3of9.ttf to mimic the company's serial number plate laser etching. It does require some tinkering with spread and stretch for a perfect match. I usually convert it to outlines in Illustrator, and import as vector EPS, to avoid font flash in PDF readers.

When generating sample barcodes in documents, one needs to resist the temptation to indulge in stealth tech writer humor. Thanks to smartphones, pretty much anyone can accurately decipher most barcodes these days.
