Hi, all
Please do any one know a solution that may batch-convert mif files back to fm format?

Hi,
There are a number of scripts or plugins. Those which come to my mind are:
https://www.squidds.de/en/products/finalyser/basic-package-for-fm/
There is a command FM <-> MIF to convert between these formats. Not free.
https://www.itl.eu/en/technical-documentation/i-frame-framescript.html
One of the packages has a command to convert between FM and MIF. I use it regularly. Requires FrameScript. Not free.
http://www.frameexpert.com/store/index.html
Rick Quatro has a ConvertDocs plugin. Not free.
Or you write an ExtendScript script yourself.
Best regards
Winfried

At the risk of getting in trouble here, if anyone donates to my Ride for Roswell cancer ride I will give you ConvertDocs for free. I am doing the 100 mile route again. Thank you.

It might be worth exploring why this conversion seems necessary.
If it's just a matter of file naming, filename.mif
can simply be renamed to filename.fm
, and FM will open it without complaint.

This is true, but they are still two different file types. FM files are binary FrameMaker files, while MIF files are text files containing Maker Interchange Format content. MIF files are usually quite a bit larger than the corresponding FM files.

re: … but they are still two different file types.
Sure, but my question is about what's giving rise to the need to convert.
If, for example, it's just a matter of some server archive script looking only for .fm and .book files, the re-name hack works.
