I just installed FM9 and started using my previous FM7 templates for creating new document formats (paragraphs, etc.). I noticed that the new paragraph designer worked fine, but within 30 minutes, the new icons buttons quit working. The Paragraph designer quit working correctly altogether after a while. I called Customer Support, and they told me that with the new design of FM9, FM7 (and even some FM8) documents won't work correctly in FM9. You have to either recreate the documents from scratch or save as MIF and bring back to FM9. UGH!
So if I everyone has to mess with converting their old FM7/FM8 documents, why would anyone want to upgrade to FM9???
I wish I would have been told this before I purchased this upgrade!

Yes, I did install the patch, but the problem is still there.

Something sounds fishy here. If I bring forward an older FM version document to FM9, I then always save it (with a slightly different name) immediately after conversion. Once saved, it's FM9 and I haven't run into any problems in working with them.
The symptoms that you describe sound more like a memory leak.

I created a new document in FM9. Imported the para/char formats from another document, which was originally created in FM7. After 3 minutes, the paragraph designer quit altogether.

I've tried duplicating this behaviour on two machines and so far I don't see these results.
How much Ram and free disk space for your Temp area do you have on your machine?
What happens if you convert your templates to MIF and then import the template from the MIF version?

I converted my template to MIF and imported the MIF formats into a brand new document. Paragraph designer could not even be accessed after I did that. I closed out of Frame and restarted it, and tried it again. It was working fine for about 45 minutes, but now I am having the same problem. I seemed to start having problems when I worked on updating numbered paragraph tags.

This is sounding more and more like a resource issue since you were able to work for a longer period of time after restarting FM before the symptoms appeared again.
Does your machine meet the FM9 requirements? Are you working over a network?

No, I am not working over a network.
I am using MS XP with Service Pack3, have 7.68 GB of hard disk space and 3.5 GB RAM.
