Book Page Numbering Goes Wrong at Page 100

I am putting together a book in Framemaker 9 on Windows. The numbering properties of all the chapters are the same: they continue numbering from the chapter in front of them. When I generate the book, I get the right number of pages (387), but all the page number past 99 are totally screwed up in

the chapters. The page numbers in the chapters go from 99 to 10, stay at 10 for about 15 pages, then jump to some other number, etc. I've moved the chapters around in order and it doesn't matter what order they are in, the problem always starts at page 100.

Does anyone know what is going on here or how to fix this problem?

Make sure the text frames on the master pages that display the page numbers are wide enough to display numbers above 99. Try making them extra wide and see what happens. I have made documents with page numbers above 100 and had no problems.

I got a nice note from Van Kurtz suggestion that the frame holding my page numbers might be too small. Indeed, this is exactly what the problem was. Thanks very much for the quick and accurate response!
