Can LOF "ignore" chapters without figures when generating?

I have a list of figures in a book, and everything is working as designed: the chapter titles, figure titles, and page numbers are all listed in the LOF. However, some of the chapters do not have figures in them, so those chapters only have a chapter title and page number listed in the LOF. I can remove these entries by hand after I generate, but I would rather set up the file to ignore chapters that don't contain figures if this setting is possible.

Oh, I am using FM 9 on Vista 64 bit.

Thanks in advance.

Just an untested thought … given that you can choose which generated items to update, what would the result be if you manually set the "no figures" chapters to Exclude in the book file before generating the LOF?

Probably not something you'd want to do every day, but if the LOF is something relatively static (and if this trick works!) this approach might be less painful than editing the LOF every time.

Another option would be to create a _nofigures paragraph format and assign this to those chapters.

There is no automatic solution unless you write a program/script to handle this. Your first instruction to FrameMaker is to collect certain paragraph formats (not all of them being figure titles). This is all the product does and it does so well.

Michael, that's a far more elegant solution – you obviously understood the question better! I'd second the approach you suggest, which (now you've reminded me) is what I already do to make sure "Contents" doesn't appear as a ToC entry in the Contents page.
