Can't make a PDF from a 40" x 24" template

PDF gurus,

I have a doc with a page size of 40" x 24" that I can't seem to convert to PDF. When I Save As PDF, I get the correct page size but an empty document. When I print to postscript and distill, I get an 8.5x11 block of the original file. Not reduced, just a letter-sized block taken out of the center, looking correct for the small bit of the file that was captured.

Have I exceeded some limitation here or am I doing something wrong? I've tried it on FM7, 8, and 9 with the same results. FWIW, all fonts in the doc are 125pt or bigger and all text is white with a big black frame behind it.

I've attached the file in FM7 format if anyone is interested.

Thanks,

Russ

Russ,

Have you applied the Microsoft hotfix for the PDF drop-out issue to your configuration? See: http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2008/07/hotfix_for_framemaker_1.html

Which version of Acrobat are you using? There was an issue with 5 or 6 and large fonts, but I can't remember the details.

Russ,

FWIW, it worked just fine on my setup outputting to E-sized landscape. Attached is the PDF.

Thanks Arnis. I'm using Acrobat 9 as installed with the TCS 2.0. I have not applied the hotfix and I'm a bit hesitant to do so, as the behavior I see does not seem to be as described on the hotfix page.

What does it mean to "output to E-sized landscape?"

I think Arnis is just picking the next size larger sheet, E in the European page sizing, which is a 34" x 44"... rather than try a custom page size.

You could trying creating a custom paper size for Adobe PDF. In the print dialog, click Properties. Then select the Layout tab. Then click Advanced. Select custom paper size and click Edit.

I have never tried this with Frame but have with Visio. It may take some playing around to get what you want.

I think output to E-sized landscape means to select E-size as the paper and print landscape. In other words, try to find a standard paper size that is larger than what you need; then trim as needed.

Good luck,

Van
