I'm using Version 9.0p196.
When I used the "Advanced Save" to save an .fm file to a pdf, I got the message "The specified printer 'N/A' cannot be found, use printer 'Adobe PDF' instead. After I click OK, it said "cannot create PS file", and "failed to create PDF file.
It worked fine before. This problem was occurred after I copied some fonts to the following locations:
C:\Windows\Fonts
and
C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker9\fminit\fonts\adobe
Those fonts are:
timesbd.ttf
times.ttf
HelveticaWorld-Regular.ttf
HelveticaWorld-Italic.ttf
HelveticaWorld-BoldItalic.ttf
HelveticaWorld-Bold.ttf
I have no idea if that's the cause of the problem. Does anyone know?
By the way, the FM 9 is running on XP.
Thanks,
Meggie

Meggie,
You may or may not have created a mess with fonts. I would try not to have duplicate fonts, it is totally sufficient to have them in C:\Windows\Fonts.
But your FrameMaker verson is definitely four (4) patches behind. The current version is 9.0.4 (9.0p255) and you can get the updaters here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=22&platform=Windows
You have to install them one after another.
Some of the patches improved the Save as PDF feature.
For further communication, please add your OS version and Acrobat version.

Michael,
Thank you for the information about the patches. I have installed them all, but the problem still exists. I have Acrobat 9 Pro Extended version 9.0.0 installed and my OS is Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2.

Meggie,
How comes you have this version of Acrobat. The 9.x branch was updated to 9.4.5 during the months. As I try to stay current with applications that may display files from the Internet I have no idea how to move quick from 9.0.0 to 9.4.5, but the updaters should be available from inside Acrobat (check the Help menu) or from Adobe’s website
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows
Try to get current with your software. BTW, I was never sure what you meant by »Advanced Save« as I cannot find this term in my UI.

Hi Michael,
I am required to use the FrameMaker with a plug-in (XXX Frame Environment) which is required and also developed by our client. When I click "Save As", there is a "Adv. Save" button in the dialog.
Just now I launched the FM without the plug-in and tried the PDF converting function. It works normally, but some pictures in the PDF cannot be fully displayed. I inserted pictures in .cgm format in the FM.
Perhaps the PDF converting problem has something to do with the FM plug-in. But still, I will update my Acrobat.

When you clicked OK, FrameMaker did not (does not) change the printer for you. You need to select Adobe PDF as the printer in the Print dialog box. Then click Print.
You should either set Adobe PDF as your default printer or get the free plugin SetPrint from Sundorne.com. This plugin switches the printer to Adobe PDF when you switch to FrameMaker. In general, Adobe PDF should be the printer that you use in FrameMaker when you want to create a PDF.
Note also Michael's suggestions about the fonts, though I do not believe that was the cause of your problem.

Thanks, Van. The Adobe PDF is already the default printer in my FrameMaker. Is it possible that something is not correct in the Print Setup ->Properties...?
