CheckCompliance out of range

New Here ,

Hello,

I am using FrameMaker 8 and trying to create a Standard pdf file. I've recently upgraded to Acrobat 9 and installed CS5. The message I now get when creating a pdf is:

Adobe PDF Settings file read error in PDFX4 2008.job options /Check Compliance out of range

Can anyone offer advice to fix this? I am trying to use the Standard job option but it seems to keep defaulting to PDFX.

Thank you

Dexy,

Unless you are explicitly asking for that file to be used, the message can be ignored. If you want to use the "Standard" joboptions file make sure that you select it in the PDF Setup > Settings tab > PDF Job Options: (drop down list - select Standard).

FYI, the error message is due to a problem with the newer joboptions file installed with CS5. Distiller doesn't support the PDF-X/4 info (which asks it to preserve transparency, which doesn't exist in postscript files) and complains when reading the joboptions files. However, it shouldn't affect your PDF creation unless you explicitly select it.

If it really bothers you, the easiest way to make this go away is to either delete it or change the file extension of that particular joboptions file (so Distiller will ignore it). It should be located in your \Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\Settings (on whatever drive you're using for your apps). Rename the "PDFX4 2008.joboptions" file to "PDFX4 2008.junk" but be aware that this may impact some of the CS5 operations if you use more advanced features to create PDFs from those.

Also, which version of FM8 are you using? The last release was 8.0p277 (a.k.a. 8.0.4). To get the most up-to-date patches see: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=22&platform=Windows The patches need to be installed in release order.

Thanks for the tips Arnis.

You suggested that I can ignore the error message that I am getting. Am I missing something? Distiller grinds to a hault and there are no options to continue. I will try renaming PDFX4 2008.joboptions and hope for the best.

Thanks again!

Dexy,

What joboption is showing in your PDF setup window when you try to create the PDF?

Hello, I am using the standard setting. But when the distiller window opens the Default Settings window changes to High Quality Print... and I get the error stated previously (Adobe PDF Settings file read error in PDFX4 2008.joboptions: /CheckCompliance out of range).

What I find interesting is that in my dropdown list (in the Distiller > Default Settings)  does not have an option for PDFX4 2008.

LATEST

It is not an error but rather a warning that Distiller found a joboption file that supports PDF/X-4, a version of PDF/X supported by direct export by the CS applications, but not by the Distiller. Since Distiller does not support PDF/X-4, it does not even display joboptions files invoking PDF/X-4.

You may very safely ignore the warning!
