Default Font selection can't be customized in Character Catalog?

I'd like to customize my Character Catalog list, but it doesn't give me the option of retaining the Default Font selection. It isn't even among the selections you can choose to show or hide when editing for customization. Can someone offer a solution? I'd even settle for an explanation.

What version of FM? That might have some bearing on an answer...

I can verify this behavior in FrameMaker 2020. I would consider this a bug.

Same behaviour already in FM-14 (2017) - and (tested just now) in FM-12

I have a script roughed out that solves this problem. I would be willing to share the code if people want to test it.

The formats listed are currently set in an XML file, but I can look into adding a live update based on the current document's character format panel's list. I am not sure if this is exposed to ExtendScript, but I can check. But it would be fairly easy to add character formats to the XML file.
