I used to know how to do this...but have totally forgotten, and you all may have a better way anyway.
If I want to do this:
Note: Have Note: to be bold and the text in the note not to be bold. How do I accomplish this. We do this with several paragraph formats in our documents.
Thanks,

ls,
First create a character tag that is set to bold only, e.g. Shift+F8 in the Character Designer to set everything to AsIs, then select Weight:Bold, give the character tag a name, e.g. myBold (or whatever semantic meaning you want for this) and click on Commands > New Format > Store in Catalog.
When you create the paratag, do not set the Bold property in the paragraph designer font properties. Instead, under the Numbering tab, enter "Note: " in the autonumber field and select the "myBold" from C

At least wwo ways.
If it's a specific style that you use a lot (like note, warning, etc.), then use the auto-number field to hold the text and select an appropriate pre-defined character style that will give you the bold or whatever attribute. Create one paratag style per type of note, warning, etc.
If you have variable text at the start, but want it to look like a single paragraph, e.g. as in glossary/dictionary entries, create a run-in paragraph style that has the bold for the first part and then use the regular style for the next paragraph. Link the run-in paratag to the next one by selecting the Next Pgf Tag option in the Basic tab of the paragraph designer. This also has the advanttage of being able to pull the first part for use in bookmarks, cross-refs, etc.
Then there's always manually applying a character tag to the selected text...![]()

I am still getting the text as Bold and everytime I make a para format and move things around my panel freezes. I had this problem when we first got FM9 but it was solved...it has re-appeared....... I remember we did something with the Character Format list to get the Note: bold (or whatver the paragraph format is).

Have you installed the 9.0.2 patch for FM9? It should say FM9.0p237 under Help > About FrameMaker... for the latest version if it's installed.

Thank you!!... that absolutely worked for the paragraph style. I have downloaded the patch though....don't know why this started happening again. I changed my default printer back to PDF printer and rebooted to make sure it would take. But every time I make a different paragraph, I have to close framemaker....
