Different color lines in tables?

New Here ,
Nov 22, 2010 Nov 22, 2010

Hi

I want to create a predefined table (tag) with lines of different colors. The table header is dark blue and I want to make the inside column lines white. But only in the header. The table body cells are white with black column lines. I don't want to insert a table first and then use the "custom ruling&shading..." every time I want to insert this table in my document.

Has anyone any solution to this?

The Table Catalog doesn't allow for the storing of such customizations. All you can store for a table definition is what you can define via the Table Designer, even if you want to tweak things at the MIF level.

What you can do is to create your customized table in a text frame on a Reference page and then copy & paste as required when you need to insert it.

An alternate approach would be to use Silicon Prairie's AutoText tool to store the table design and insert when required. See: http://www.siliconprairiesoftware.com/Products.html

Thanks. I didn't thought about using the ref page. That's one way to do it. I will also check the Silicon Prairie's AutoText tool.

There is a provision for having different coloured rules in the header and footer. You’d have to define a new ruling style (under Custom Ruling Style > Edit) and then apply it in the table designer to Separators under Heading and Footing Ruling.

Can Frame save colored table rules and shading?

Hi,

Are there any Frame 10 users who can tell me whether Frame will save a table with colored rules or shading in Table Designer?  I'm on Frame 7.2 and I've got the hang of the clunky UI. I designed a table layout with colored rules and shading, then used it to create a new table format. When I inserted a new table using that format, all the color reverted to black.

This is an ablility that Adobe should have implemented by now. If it does, then that gives me one more reason to get Frame 10 in this shop.

Yours,

Michael F

Michael,

As in earlier versions of FM, whatever you can define (that includes fills and linestyles) via the Table designer is stored in the Table catalog. Customized lines and or shading for specific cells are not stored in the catalog as these are considered overrides.

Arnis,

Sorry to see that Frame 10 can't save table customizations. I did experiment with it and was able to get Frame to save colors and shading in the current file with 2, 3 and 4 column tables.

As soon as I imported these table formats to another file and inserted them there, Frame randomly redefined the shading or rule colors and thicknesses to their defaults. So I'll stick with separate table files and just import them as needed.

Michael F

Let Adobe know about this by adding to their wishlist - see https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

Jeff,

Good idea. I just submitted a feature request. We might see it by version 11.
