Documenation is wrong about table anchor symbols always appearing after Table > Insert Table.

Instead table anchor symbols only appear if you have View > Text Symbols enabled. This can be very frustrating for a new user because the default is that it is not enabled (at least as installed through my corporate license), whereas the documentation presumes that it is enabled. I think the documentation for Table > Insert Table should be enhanced to mention this. In addition, the documentation for text flowing around a table is very frustrating if you do not have text symbols enabled. Before I discovered the View > Text Symbols feature, I was always getting text flowing around tables but I wanted it to be positioned before the table. Turning on Text Symbols showed me what was happening. The documentation for text flowing around tabls should mention that users can enable View > Text Symbols in order to better see what is happening with their tables and paragraph in which they are anchored.

What version of FM?
The on-line Help for FM2020, for example, says (emphasis added by me):
"An anchor symbol ⊥ appears at the insertion point when text symbols are visible."
This line of text has said that since at least FM7 if not earlier.

I might add that outside of some structured scenarios, it would be unusual for an author to not have Text Symbols on most of the time. They are just too useful.

Since this is a user-to-user forum, you'd be better off contacting the FM folks direct - see https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/enterprise-support.other.html#framemaker for your Adobe Support options. I'd recommend using the tcssup@adobe.com e-mail address as it reaches a team dedicated to Technical Communication Suite products including FrameMaker.

Hi Fred, you'll find helpful resources for learning about FrameMaker on your FrameMaker Welcome screen, under Learn

A number of us on this forum are also listed on the Adobe Partners page, and teach and write books that can help.

As non-Adobe employees, we're always here to help with specific questions, but as Jeff mentioned, we don't have control over the user interface, documentation, or web resources like the tracker.adobe.com site.

Hi @Fred35730038ntam:

We do find occasional mistakes in the User Guides or missing information but Bob is right. This is the first page of the FrameMaker 2022 Help file on using Tables.

FrameMaker is tough to teach yourself. Taking advantage of the resources Matt shared (or taking a class) will save a lot of time and heartache.
