Does FrameMaker 2015 have MIF and archiving capabilities?

I'm brining a batch of FrameMaker 8 files into FrameMaker 2015. When I am done I will need to archive the updated files and make MIF - or the equivalent - from the new files.

What is the process?

Thanks.

I'm not certain what you're referring to when you say archive, but as far as saving as MIF, the process is essentially to go into each file and use File > Save As and select MIF from the Save as type dropdown list.

You can also install the Book MIF Wash utility, which is a "sample" DLL located in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker 2015\Samples\ScriptsAndUtilities\BookMIFWash directory. Open the fm_bookmifwash.c file for directions on where to move the BookComponentMIFWash.dll and how

I'm not positive (I haven't tested it), but I don't think Bruce's plugin works with FM2015. That's one of the reasons Rick wrote his ArchiveES script.

Open the fm_bookmifwash.c file for directions on where to move the BookComponentMIFWash.dll and how to modify the maker.ini file to add a menu selection to your menu bar. Once it's installed and you restart FM, you can use it to create MIFs of all the files in the book.

Warning: Running the Book MIF Wash will overwrite your FM files, as it is intended to clean bugs out of the FM files.

Rick Quatro has scripts for this sort of thing. One is called ArchiveES, and it copies all the files in an FM book, including the book file, along with any referenced text insets and graphics, to a designated directory. The other is called ConvertDocs and converts FM files and books to other versions of the binary FM files or to MIF. A combination of these may work for you. If you're concerned about overwriting using the Book MIF Wash, you can use ArchiveES to move your files to a separate directory and then run Book MIF Wash or use the ConvertDocs script.

If you don't have referenced insets or graphics, just copy the files to a different directory and run the Book MIF Wash to get your MIF files.

Yes this answers the questions. Archiving was/is done through Bruce Foster's archive plugin. The programs you suggested should work for us. I will pass along this information for review.

That's what we have found out. We were using Structured FrameMaker and had some purpose built plugins for FrameMaker 8. They won't even install in FM2015.
