Errors 8004, 5274580, 5278918, 5281930 and 4989653, 5366831, 5370061

Today seems to be a bad day for Framemaker on my computer, there were several crashes. I had a book and had two or four documents open in FM,  but was working with other applications when FM crashed. Therefore I can rule out that it was caused by my direct interaction.

See below for the error codes of the latest crash that produced two error logs. The other crashes only returned Application Errors in Windows.

What I've tried so far was to clean up the temp folder and reboot the PC, without significant success. The PC configuration shoud be fine (3 GB RAM, over 150 GB free space on the system drive), and I'm not aware of any recent changes to the software.

Any ideas what might be the cause?

Thanks in advance,

jk

If FM was idle and you were working in other application when FM crashed, I would tend to suspect that the other application may have stomped on FM somehow. Are the FM crashes repeatable when using the other application(s)?

Thanks, Arnis.

There were Lotus Notes, a simple text editor and a Windows remote desktop running. I've been using these applications alongside FM8 for many months without any problems.

I wonder if the problem is related to Autosave. On saving manually, I've noticed that FM occasionally shows an alert that one of the documents has been changed outside FM, and asks whether to overwrite the changes. (Unfortunately I don't recall the original message.) All files are stored in local folders and should be available all the time, with no other users interfering. For testing, I've turned off autosave in FM to see whether that will help.

EDIT: Here's the message:

File (...) has changed on the disk since you last opened or saved it. Someone else has probably modified the file. Do you want to save it anyway?

Johannes,

It sounds like you may have an overly aggressive anti-virus checker/security application running that is touching the open files. Ordinarily, you shouldn't get that type of message unless a co-worker has actually opened the same .fm file and overriden the network lock (if it's enabled).

After having finished working on one particular document, the problem hasn't recurred so far. That would mean the document is corrupted, but neither saving as MIF nor copying all the content and importing the formats did help. I'll have to see what happens during the next revision of that document ...

Disabling the antivirus software I still have to try and report back ...
