Hi,

I am new to structure FrameMaker and have been asked to find a way (if possible) to export an EDD element catalogue to a spreadsheet for data analysis.

Has anyone ever needed to do this or even know if it is possible?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Andrew

As you are new to structured FM, you are also possibly new to XML data.

If that is the case, I'd say there is no way to export it.

If that is not the case, I'd say: Save the EDD as XML, do an identiy transform for the <element> element (this extracts you the element names), save as text file and import it as formatted text to Excel.

But what I'm wondering mostly about is, what kind of data analysis would one possibly do with that information?

All you get is how many elements are used in that edd, nothing more nothing less (ok, you could count how many elements start with the letter 'e').

If you need to know how often certain elements are used in already structured documents, there are better means to do that than a spreadsheet.

Cheers Alex
