FM 6.0 w/CS 3.x :: Missing Footers/Chapter Numbers in PDFs

New Here ,

Hi all,

I've done some poking around and didn't find anything specifically addressing this, so hopefully it's not a case of me missing the obvious.

I work at a company where we use FM 6.0 to produce documentation (sometimes directly through FM, other times through a series of scripts that produce MIF that is fed through FM to produce output).

What has been happening more frequently is that after generating a PDF (either through "Save As (pdf)" or by printing to the Adobe Printer to generate a .ps file and then distilling that to a .pdf), many of the footers will fail to appear in the final document.

Sometimes switching from trying to save directly to a PDF to distilling the final works; othertimes the reverse is true.

I'm not sure if perhaps this is related to having an older version of FM, or what the problem might be.

If anyone has any insight, it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks for reading,

PM

PM,

With FM6 (and earlier versions), you definitely should not be using
the Save As PDF feature It was buggy and for a more detailed tome on
this, see the note by Dov Isaacs at:

If the text is "dropping out" and not being clipped by an incorrect
output sheet size, then there is a MS hotfix that might alleviate the
problem. See the posting at the top of the Forum on PDF text drop out
and FNTCACHE.DAT issues being resolved:

Thanks Arnis. I wasn't aware of the patch, and have installed it.

Typically, I wouldn't have used the "Save as PDF" command, as I was aware of the issues surrounding it; however, it did seem to occasionally resolve the intermittent dropout of text.

Thanks again for providing the link to the patch - hopefully won't run into the issue again!
