FM8, DITA, and XREF tags -- clickable?

For FM8 DITA: Is it possible to create clickable xrefs in DITA topic files?

I have a reference topic with several sections. I created topic IDs for each of the sections, then created an unordered list (a.k.a. bulleted list) with DITA xref elements to each of the sections. So far, so good.

If I gen the material as HTML via the FM8-DITA plugin, I get links (understandable). But the xrefs are not clickable, either as XML (less understandable) or if saved as a FrameMaker binary or a PDF (not understandable).

So, is there a "trick" for creating clickable xrefs in DITA topic files? Or is this an unrealistic desire?

Cheers & thanks,
Riley

Hi Riley...

Me again. Well in FM8 DITA, the only (reasonable) way to get hot xrefs in a PDF is to use the fm-xref element instead of xref. If you need to use real DITA xrefs, DITA-FMx provides an "Xref to Hyperlink" command that will do the job for you.

Scott:

Thanks. I'm not surprised insofar as XML doesn't itself really "know about" clickable links.

But I thought I'd ask lest I simply be missing a step...

Cheers, thanks, & have a great weekend,
Riley
