I've just started working at a new job and they have the following:
Windows XP Professional SP3
FrameMaker 8.0p277
Acrobat Distiller (Standard) 8.2.5.241
I tried to Save as PDF and it starts to work, but stops. The .tps file has a size of 0, there's no .pdf, and there's no error message. This happened repeatedly for a number of books I tried.
I looked at the PDF "printer" in the printer queue and the state was Deleting. I canceled all jobs, and the printer disappeared! (It's possible I could have had a slip of the mouse, but not probable; I was being very careful.)
I've been searching the forums here, but no one seems to have this particular problem. Any suggestions?
Also, are the drivers downloadable from Adobe? I didn't see any.

I'd try rebotting first, to see if that restores your printer setup.
And, since you mentioned XP, have you downloaded the XP PS printer hotfix?
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=952909 -- it applies to all PS printers, including the logical PDF.
And if I were you, I'd keep on printing to the logical printer and avoid SaveAs PDF...

Rebooting didn't help.
That's a good suggestion about the hotfix. I don't know if it was already installed on this PC or not, but I'll go download it anyway.
When (if) I can download a new driver, I'll try printing to the logical driver.
Do you know the filename for the driver so that I can search for that?

MM, just a quick word, there is no "driver" for the PDF creation process that's downloadable from Adobe, folks are often mistakenly download the very, very old Adobe Postscript driver and this only causes additional grief down the road.

About the hotfix, be sure you follow the instructions for installing it carefully, as it takes several steps.
In the end, check your Control Panel > Add/Remove programs, click on the "Show updates" box, then scroll down to be sure that the specific number for the hotfix is displayed as being installed in the list under the "Windows XP" section.

Here's a link with info from Adobe's Dov Isaacs (the postscript and printer guru extraordinaire):
