This sucks.

Has anyone had this same problem before?

I was working on a book with multiple files open. I did a global search and replace and I saw all the files in the book were automatically saved. I went back to check the backup files, and they also contained the same replace result.

What's going on?

Can anyone shed some light if there's a setting somewhere that's causing this?

Thank you all!

In the case of a book where component files are NOT open, opening, modifying, saving and closing is the expected behavior.

It sounds like Frame is doing the save even if the file is open, and apparently doing another save before the modify (which resets the .backup. as well).

The FM7.1 Help says, at Find and Change:

"For these reasons, consider saving your document and then clicking Find and then Change to replace several found occurrences."

The FM9 Help no longer says this.

I haven't tested what actually happens in this case for FM7.1.

I normally use Change&Find if the operation seems the least bit risky.

Hi Error7103, I guess I must have done the global replace with just one file open at the time.

Thanks for the correct answer! I'll keep that in mind for future updates!

You are awesome!
