Hi Folks,
I am about to do the Framemaker ACE Certification Exam ( 9AO-077). I am finding it very hard to get information about the exam except for what is in the Exam Prep guide. Can anyone who has done this exam share their experiences and give advice.
I am particulary interested in the format of the exam, what resources to study, sample exam questions etc.
I am a newcomer to Framemaker so any advice will be welcomed.
Thanks in advance.

dingle,
I haven't taken it since FM 7, so I can only speak to that experience. It was a multiple choice test, but it was very challenging. If you are a newcomer to FM, I'd recommend waiting. Some of the questions could be answered with book knowledge; however, some could only be answered if you were intimately familiar with the program. At least in the past, the test was craftily designed to make sure that you had some in-depth experience using the software.
As far as other resources like study guides or sample questions, you won't find anything except for what Adobe provides. It's not a widely-issued test with that garners lots of attention... if you think about it, it really is only taken by a niche of users for a niche product to begin with.

Thanks for your comments Russ. Unfortunately I have to take the exam in the next two weeks (need it to apply for a job) so it looks like it's going to be a tough couple of weeks !
Anyone got any suggestions on what to focus on, any resources (online, books, braindumps etc) I could use ?
Thanks in advance,
Dingle

You'll find quite a bit of the exam is based on Structured FrameMaker and
XML knowledge.
Know what DTD, EDD are and be able to perform basic edits in a structured
FrameMaker document.

Be aware that to take the ACE exams, one agrees not to reveal specifics, so don't be put off by what may seem to be indifference by list members, or reluctance to offer specific information.
I'm an ACE in FrameMaker 4, 5, and 6; can't remember if I took the 7 or not. I've been a FrameMaker user since v. 2.x, and a FrameMaker trainer since v. 3.x. The only truly specific piece of information that I can share is that, despite my experience, each ACE exam I took was a real workout! I think the folks who create the exams have ACEs in creating tough exams<G>.
As FrameMaker added major new feature areas, for example combining of FrameMaker + SGML (formerly a separate structured FrameMaker product) with unstructured, as Matt notes, this material is considered fair game for exam topics. Similarly, the interconnectedness of FrameMaker and Acrobat opens the opportunity for exam topics.
I haven't looked to see if there's an overall ACE exam for the Technical Communications Suite 2 (TCS2), or if one needs to take an exam for each its of its components - FrameMaker, Photoshop, Acrobat, Robohelp, and Captivate. So, be sure that you're taking the FrameMaker-only ACE exam, if there's a choice between it and the TCS2 ACE.
Look through Adobe's FrameMaker ACE prep bulletin for clues to areas that include the FrameMaker 9 new interface, the improved Unicode font features that began in FrameMaker 8 because they apply to PDF output (another area) and print output. FrameMaker 9 can incorporate multi-media objects, and even 3-D objects, so these are possible areas as well.
The FrameMaker 8 and 9 new features PDF publications at Adobe's site should give some good clues as well.
Also, search Google for terms like "FrameMaker ACE exam preparation" without quotes.
Don't try to get through the next two weeks with end-to-end all-nighters; you'll need to be conscious and sharp.
There's a practice session that begins the exam, so you can get used to the mechanics and conventions of the computerized test.
HTH
Good luck,
Peter
