Framemaker book asking me to relink to deleted graphics for any file within book where graphic once

Hi -

I have a specific question but I have to imagine others have had it happened.

Currently working on FM2020. All software is managed by IT, so I cannot download any extensions/extras/or change my FM SW, just as a note.

The issue: I work on big user guides (400+ pages) and include many images of our app and physical product in workflows. When software is updated, screens get updated. When designers make a change, design elements on the GUIs change. When I put updated GUIs/artworks/button graphics/whatever in my links folder where I store them, and then update the image in the book file, save, close, then reopen the next time I have work to do, Framemaker asks me to update the path for the image/element that is NO LONGER in the document. I delete these images/elements from the links folder. We have so many, and also translate into multiple language from our English source, it is not practical to hold onto not in use images.

Has anyone encountered this? This might seem minor, but when I'm swapping out 20+ images and having to "Ignore missing file" every time I open all files in a book, it becomes extremely burdensome.

Any advice??

Thank you!

It might be worthwhile to verify that the references aren't there anymore. Save offending file as MIF; search for something unique about the now-gone-graphic.

For example, it's pretty easy to cause something in an Anchored Frame to get shoved/repositioned out of sight (or as Winfried suggests, just hidden behind other/newer content). It looks like it's not there, but it is.

Hi,

Could it be that you do not change the path to a graphics file, but that you insert an additional file into the anchored frame? Then this would be on top of your old file. Both files would be in the same anchored frame.

I did this accidentally a few weeks ago ;).

Best regards, Winfried

To test this you could cut the new file (CTRL+X) and then you see, if the old file is still there.

I tried this but was unable to find any ghost images. I also tried Bob's suggestion to save-as MIF, but did not find anything that way either.

Hi,

In the Inset pod you can see a list of all referenced files. Is the graphics file which should be deleted listed?

When you open the file with the updated image, what's there?

Best regards, Winfried
