FrameMaker not accessible in my Adobe Plan

Hi all,

When I log into my Adobe account, I can see FrameMaker as one of the apps in my plan, but it is not available when I select View all apps? And if I click (1)OTHERS in the page with the apps, I get an error.

My FrameMaker 17 works fine, but is not automatically updated, that's why I wanted to access it in my Adobe account.

I also have the Creative Suite in my plan and that works fine, with all the apps being updated automatically.

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening, and what I can do? I  tried the Adobe chat but had to give up...

Best regards,

Christiane

Hi Christiane,

I cannot log in my Adobe account and check this now. However, I remember vaguely that one of the lists shows only the Creative Suite Apps.

FrameMaker is in another list.

Which error do you get, when you try to open the "Other" page?

Here there are the downloads:

https://helpx.adobe.com/framemaker/kb/framemaker-downloads.html

You can download the latest update. It encompasses also all other updates since 17.0.0.

Best regards, Winfried

Hi Winfried,

Thanks for your answer! When I try to open the "OTHER" page, I get this error (it's in Danish, but basically it just says "there was an error" and "Try again").

In the meantime I have updated my FrameMaker directly from within FrameMaker (with the IT department entering an admin password). That worked fine, but I would like to have it automatically updated like the other apps I have in my plan.

I believe that because the Adobe Technical Communication Suite (which FM belongs to) isn't part of the Creative Suite, it doesn't get updated in that way. Ping the FM folks to confirm.

Your best bet in contacting anybody in FM support is to see https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/enterprise-support.other.html#framemaker for your Adobe Support options. I'd recommend using the tcssup@adobe.com e-mail address as it reaches a team dedicated to Technical Communication Suite products including FrameMaker.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the advice - but I'm not sure it's FrameMaker experts I'm looking for, since my problem is not actually in FrameMaker, but in how FrameMaker appears (or not) in my Adobe account?

Hi @christiane_2136:

I have both the CC All Apps Plan and the TCS Plan (which includes FrameMaker), but the CC Desktop App only manages my CC apps. I manage my TCS updates from within the applications (i.e., in FrameMaker, Help > Updates). There isn't an auto-update option for the TCS apps. (And I turn it off for the CC apps so not missing it.)

I found this quote (that I evidently solicited from the TCS support team a few years ago) in response to a similar question::

There is no automatic update that happens for FrameMaker/RoboHelp/Technical Communication Suite. Once the release is available, a user has to download and install the new build manually.

Until this changes, you upgraded FrameMaker the right way (and the only way).

I periodically open all the TCS programs separately and check for updates under the Help menu.

Also, you won't automatically download new major versions. I usually download the trial version and install myself. Once you sign in, it's no long a trial. The only downside on this is that you can expect a call and email from Adobe sales...

Thanks Dave!

I'll do the same - only I have to call IT everytime, because only an admin is allowed to install updates.

By the way, don't trust this:

I found it is not always accurate. Check the Help menu updates.

(As a side note, if you use it/them, you have to check each version of Captivate [v12 and Classic] separately.)

Hi Barb,

Thanks for your reply! Then I guess I'll just have to call IT everytime there is a new update (since an admin PW is needed).

But at least now I know how it is 🙂
