Hi All,
we run Framemaker 10 sucessfully for 2-3 years on a row on Windows Server 2008 R2 with Remote Desktop Services.
We use a specific concurrent useer license for max. 5 users. works great without any problem.
I updated to version Framemaker 12 last month.
PROBLEM: when saving to PDF .. the FM session just crashes without any message .. application is just gone.
I know that the specs of Framemaker doesn't show Windows Server 2008 R2 (is 64-bit), but from what I know, the architecture of Server 2008 is for a big part the same as Windows 7 (64-bit).
Does anybody have any experience with Framemaker crashing when saving to PDF .. and a solution to solve this behaviour?
(I already updated with the latest patch)?
Please also answer when you solved your issue in Windows XP sp3, Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Thanks!
Hans Janssen

Do you have the full Acrobat installed or just the “headless” version that comes with FM?

The 1st server I installed on was already running Adobe Acrobat Pro X (with Distiller). That didn't work.
The 2nd server (another Server 2008 R2 I've setup to test this issue), was completely blank .. installed FM12 on it 'as is'. Same problem.

Can you Print To the Adobe logical printer? SaveAs has problems, but if you
can print to the Adobe printer, that verifies that your Acrobat
installation is solid.
On the FM print dialog box, CHECK Generate Acrobat Data and UNCHECK Print
To File.

Regardless of the server issue - whenever you load standalone FM on a machine that already has the full Acrobat install, you need to explicitly choose not to install the PDF creator that comes with FM. The FM installer is notorious for bunging up Acrobat installs.

Are you running Framemaker Publishing Server or just ordinary Framemaker on WS2008R2?
Based on remarks I've seen here historically, regular FM may not run on Windows Server.
