FrameMaker workspace changes with every document I open

Hello, I have another really simple but annoying issue. I will get my workspace set up exactly the way I want it. I save it. And then as soon as I open another document, even in the same book, it all goes wonky again with the workspace bar changing and random panels opening up and my structure/book menu changing size. Is there something I am not doing that is causing this to happen? A coworker suggested saving a copy of the workspace file to my desktop so I can "reset" it but this happens almost every time I open a document, I don't have time to keep reloading a saved file like that.

Thanks,

Dan

Never heard of that one before - what version of FM? Structured or Unstructured? Are you using any sort of source control for the content?

FM 2020. It is a structured doc but it happens when I look at other docs that are unstructured.

I don't think I am using source control, that i know of. It is the same programs as my coworkers and they don't have this issue.

After arranging all the elements the way you want them, do you save the workspace with its own custom name?

Yes, with the same name every time and I select to override the previously saved name. I also tried changing the name and that didn't help either.

Check to see if your maker.ini in your \AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\{version}\ folder has a line in about LastUsedWorkspace - mine does & it will use the named workspace each time I fire up FM.

Hmmm... I can't find anything about a LastUsedWorkspace in any folder under the \AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker section.

You should have a maker.ini in there (FM comes with 2 - one in the Program Files section where the program is installed & a second one by User). If you find it & it doesn't have a line about workspaces, just add it in the [Preferences] section. Mine looks like this:
 LastUsedWorkSpaceInUnStructuredMode=home
Where I'm using Unstructured and "home" is the name of my workspace file (which is think is a .cfws file in that AppData's \WorkSpaces\UnStructured\WYSIWYGView\ folder.

Dan: did you get this figured out? I wonder if resetting preferences (similiar to a complete uninstall/reinstall) would take care of it?
