FrameMaker2019 can't handle apostrophes

Today I received a mif file from a customer. She got it back from translation to french. This mif file contains aphostrophs (French people seem to love it because they use it so often.) 😉

When opening this 2019 mif file with FM2019(15.0.7.973), the part of the sentence after an apostroph was cut off. Opening with FM2020 or FM 2017 everything is fine.

Investigations have shown that in the mif file the correponding part is something like this:

<String `L\qéquipement de mesure sert à mesurer........

 \q is an apostrophe (hex x27 / decimal 039)

after every \q text vanishes.

Has anybody seen this behaviour or has anybody a workaraound for this problem?

I have the same problem using the 2019 release Version: 15.0.7.973.
I need a fix FAST!!!
I do not have any other version where I could try opening the files.

Hi Klaus,

I also get translations into French with many apostrophes, and I do not have this issue.

Possibly these are related to yours.

There are also other reports that there are issues with Helvetica and apostrophes. I expect that these are fixed now.

This is a confirmed bug with Update 7 and also discussed here:

Please roll back to Update 6 for FrameMaker (2019 release), until Update 8 is released. You can download the Update 6 here:

The product manager @Amitojsingh will let us know in these two threads, once Update 8 is available.
