Hi All,

In my C: Drive I have a fodler called Test (C:\Test) with two files inside of it.

  • abc.fm
  • xyz.pdf

In my abc.fm file, I have Syntex which says "See xyz.pdf"

Question: In my abc.fm file, how can I create "See xyz.pdf" as Hypertext (or link) so when I publish it as PDF file, it shows "See xyz.pdf " as a hyperlink and when clicked it opens xyz.pdf file in seperate window.

Please Note: When I send client folder Test with abc.pdf and xyz.pdf.

When they open the abc.pdf and click on the link "See xyz.pdf" it should be able to open it considering they both are in the same folder.

I know I had done this before many times in FM12 without a problem but it appears that FM2017 and FM2019 does not have these option anymore.

I would apprecaite any help that you can provide.

Thank you.

Should be the same syntax as before (I believe) - have a look at what you did in earlier versions of the file.

Hello Jeff,

Appreciate your response.

I looked into the old file. All the links are there.

When I go to Hypertext Panel, Go to URL is selected and description says message URL ./xyz.pdf

But when I publish it to PDF and open the PDF, the link does not work, it does not open anything.

Just wondering, what would the problem be?

re: But when I publish it to PDF and open the PDF

Open it from the publish dialog, or in Acrobat in a known directory, or in a web browser?

The Publish workflow has some peculiar ideas about where to put things, and any other ./*.pdfs are not apt to be there.

Hello FrameExpert,

Where can I find Openfile Option?

HyperText palette does not have any option which I can select that would give me Openfile option.

Any steps or menu steps would be helpful.

One Work-around Option:

  1. In HyperText palette, I did select Go to URL
  2. Then, typed-in message URL ./xyz.pdf
  3. In PDF Output, this does work but it opens file in Browser but not in PDF Reader.

Thank you.

Hi FrameExpert,

I tried that but Popup Message says, xyz.pdf is not Framemaker Document.

I guess my previous Work-around Option works, except it opens in Browser rather than Acrobat Reader.

Appreciate you help.

Thank you.

Hello Jeff,

In new version of FM2017 & FM2019 (compare to FM12 & FM10), some options have changed.

But Open File options does not work well with External Links.

Though, I have found a Work-around, see my commets above.

Appreciate your response.

Thank you.
