Full Version of FM 2015 prentends that I do not have a full version

I try to reinstalled FM 2015 after it crashed several times. FM 2015 worked fine for several months, I made some books with it. Than, from one day to another it didn´t start anymore. Now it says that I do not have a full version and I connot open my books anymore that I made with FM 2015. Even new download and reinstall doesn´t chance the situation. It prentends that I do not have a full version, but I have!!!. Support cannot help but says that the activation is correct for FM 2015 Full version. SN is correctly filled in.

It seems strange, that after deinstalling, new download and reinstalling he still knows my old projects, but when I want to open them, he says that I have to buy the full version. Is there any .ini file that the desinstallation doesn´t kill, so that even after a new installation FM is confused???

So what can I do??? I must continue my work.

Thanks for helping me

Peter

Check your Preferences settings to see if the FM mode has changed. The full 2015 version allows (unstructured) FrameMaker, Structured FrameMaker and XML Author modes.

There's no such thing (to my knowledge) of a "full" version of FM vs. the trial - are you talking about the XML Author tool that FM had as an option?

Yes, that´s what he says. He says (unfortunately in German, because I am German) that I have to buy the full version but mentions the XML Version. Honestly I do not know, what is what. I bought the Version FM 2015 and worked with it. I must confess that I am not very familiar with the different versions.

Fact is, that I cannot open my books, that I produced with FM 2015, because it says something about XML Version Author an a full version.

Now I desinstalled everything again, even the Creative Cloud, but the application manager reinstalled the creative cloud again. I think that after a deinstall, some files remain and that confuses FM.

I reinstalled it again and the message, translated word by word, is the following, when I try to open one of my old books produced in FM:

"This type of data is not supported in FrameMaker XML Author. To work with this type of data you need the full version of FrameMaker. To download click here."

But when I download the version by clicking on this link, it loads something down but doesn´t fix the problem

That sounds like you are running the FM XML Author program (it was a slimmed down version of FM that was designed for SMEs or other contributors to author in & not have to learn FM). It's been discontinued lately I think. Make sure you start up FM2015 first and set your prefs to either FM or FM Structured, then try opening your .book files.

Sometimes it makes a differences how you try to open a file.

What did you do?

Did you double-click on the file?

What happens, if you try to open it with File | Open?

Apart from that I'd guess that Arnis' advice is correct.

Open the dialog in Edit | Preferences. Change the Product Interface to FrameMaker or Structured FrameMaker.

(I tested it. With XML Author you cannot open FM files. You get the error message which you quoted.)

Then you should be able to open your FM files again.
