Having Trouble with Letterhead/Title in Header

Hi, I think I have a very basic question, but as usual I can't find an answer in my Framemaker books or online. I'm starting to think I'm am idiot. But this group always comes through for me, so here goes.

I am trying to design a simple header. It has four elements:

  • A logo on the left side (small image file)
  • A logo on the right side (small image file)
  • Text in the middle (specifically, two lines: the document type in 18pt font, and then the title of the documen in 12 pt. font)
  • A line underneath it all

All total, we're looking at about in inch of material in height, stretching across 6.5" near the top of the page.

If I just put the images on the right and left side and then add the text, the images are partially hidden. If I try to put them in a table, I can't figure out how to start the table at the insertion point, and I end up with a big space above it, which pushes the logo down too far.

I know this has to be a lot easier than I'm making it. Please help. I have been working on this for nearly an hour and am getting very frustrated and thinking I will never learn this. If there are articles that already address this, I've been unable to find them, so any links would be appreciated. Thank you.

P.S. I am using unstructured FrameMaker 15.

Hi Ennar:

I would:

  1. Create a new custom document that is double-sided and has a large enough top margin to accomodate the intended content.
  2. Navigate to the master pages.
  3. Resize the background header frame to accomodate 2 lines of text with the Select Object tool, leaving room for the logos. I normally format one header frame visually, then use Object Properties to mirror the values for the facing page.
  4. Type and format content using two paragraph styles (the default Header style and one of your choosing).
  5. Import both images and position.
  6. Return to the body pages.
