Dear experts

With FM-14 (2017) I have discovered the following:

Any of the 4 backups ($HOME\backup_2017.0.1, …2, …3, …4) contains only the following items:

sub-idrectory in backup-dircontents
fminit\configui\, workspaces\, structure.fm âž” no dll
structure\sgml\, xml\, samplesStructapps.fm, structapps.fm
TemplatesWithAdobeFonts\structre\
CQPreference.xml

Although fminit does not contain any backed up dlls, dlls have been exchanged in the process of updating. For example, fmres.dll:

builddatesize
3612017-01-182'842'752
4062017-04-102'842'752
4252017-06-142'843'784
5002017-11-192'844'664
5112018-03-082'836'992

Now my questions (to Adobe) are:

  • Where is the installation (update) log located?
  • How can an update be undone with such a rudimentary backup?
  • How are the dlls of a previous build reconstructed, if not available in the backup?
  • Does an FM-update place information also elsewhere (then the backups)?

Some insight into these mysteries are welcome!

Hi Klaus

To answer some of the question you asked,

1.Where is the installation (update) log located?

Logs can be collected using log collector: - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-log-collector.html

2.How can an update be undone with such a rudimentary backup?

There is a backup folder which has list of dll's/exe being modified. However, it is advisable to always uninstall and then sequentially updates can be applied to the main product which has been released.

3.How are the dlls of a previo

We can reinstall FM released build and then apply desired update.

4.Does an FM-update place information also elsewhere (then the backups)?

No, this is only in backup folder

Thank You, Amitoj for Your answers.

In the meantime I have found the location of the installation logs (C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers) with both logs and uninstall data bases. Together with Your information I got the broad pictur of the installation/uninstallation process.
