How do I do a complete uninstallation of FM9?

Hi,

I need to completely uninstall FM9 as part of troubleshooting. I tried uninstalling it using the Adobe uninstaller, but though that process took 3 hours, it was clear that the installation was only partial.

I have FM9 as part of TCS 2 and would like to thoroughly uninstall FrameMaker to try a brand new installation.

I cannot run scripts that would affect Adobe products outside the TCS 2 range, as I have Illustrator and Dreamweaver, et al., installed and do not want to mess with those installations.

Is there a "completely uninstall TCS 2" or "completely uninstall FM9" script I can run?

Thanks,

Sean

I use and would recommend the RevoUninstaller from revouninstaller.com

But given what you've posted in other emails, I'd make sure the system hadn't changed before I did a restore, uninstall or reinstall.... I realize you've already gone down that path, but...

Unfortunately no scripts for TCS2 or FM uninstalls. Revo Uninstaller might find the left-over bits in the Registry and in the folders, but I had mixed success with it (on an Acrobat issue). Otherwise a great product.

Did you de-activate and ask for the serial number to be deleted before starting to uninstall? The Adobe Licensing Manager is also a very finicky beast and may compound issues when re-installing.

Hi,

No, I did not deactivate and ask for a serial number deletion--it would never have occurred to me. The licensing manager is preventing me from testing FrameMaker in Safe mode and the licensing manager crashes once a month or so. It's a nasty bugger, but not as nasty as actually being unable to use FrameMaker. Honestly, if I cannot get FrameMaker 9 working ... I guess there are no easy answers. Moving to another application will be painful, but I guess  less painful than having an application that actually won't work at all... Strange. This is a brick wall.

Since this seems to be an installation issue, have you talked to tech support?

Installation issues are covered.

Thanks,

The question is an uninstallation issue for a seat of FrameMaker I've been using for a while now. I have not contacted support, because I tend not to want to throw good money that way ....

Good idea though. If reformatting my hard drive doesn't fix it, I'll consider support before anything more drastic.

FWIW, all installation issues are freebies from tech support.

You may have to sell them the idea that it is an installation issue, but other than that, you should be good.

Thanks all!

My solution was to rip out the hard drive, buy and install a new hard drive, install the OS all the applications and all the patches.

It worked like a charm. FrameMaker 9 is again functional.

I wish I know why it broke though, so I could provider some helpful hints about prevention or about a quicker way to remove and reinstall FrameMaker 9.

Cheers,

Sean
