How do I get a TOC from one doc transitioned to another?

I have a document from another TW that she has styled in exactly the same way I need it for my doc.  I copied pasted all the files from that folder into my new folder and renamed them appropriately.  My new doc works very well, with the exception of the TOC.  When I try to update the book that includes that TOC file and erase all the content of that TOC to make my new one, Frame produces the TOC for the original document, rather than the one I just wrote.  I have changed the file names, applied reference and master pages, and imported original formats from our master set of templates.  I'm sure it must be something easy, but 2.5 hours of my trying to get that to work has given me no solution!

Does anyone have an suggestions as to how to get this new TOC to capture from the doc I just wrote?

It sounds as if you copied the old TOC to your new book, but didn't do anything to point it to the new book.

1. Delete the old, existing TOC from your book file. NOT from disk.
   
2. Save the Book file.
3. While in the book file, do Add > TOC. Specify what tags you want to include, then update the book to generate the TOC. Make sure it includes the correct tags, but don't worry about the formatting at this point. Save the book file.
   
4. Save the new TOC, then close it.
   
5. In Windows, make a very careful note of the file name of the new TOC. Delete it or rename it to something without an .fm extension.
6. Rename the old, correctly formatted TOC to the new TOC's file name.
   
7. From the book file, double-click the TOC to make sure you can open it and the rename was correct.
8. Update the book again. Save the book and the TOC.

Art, I read the original post a tad differently; as though the querent was trying to use an existing ToC as the model for a new ToC. If this is the case, I'd go for the following:

1. delete any not-as-wanted ToC in the new book
2. create a new ToC in the new book, accepting the default settings
3. import Reference pages, layout and styles from existing ToC to new ToC
   
4. regenerate new ToC
   

What do you reckon?
