how to code font in formatting

I need to format part of a paragraph to be in bold font, in a paragraph style that is auto-formatted and auto-numbered, for example:

     fig.1.1. blah blah blah

as a figure caption. I need "fig 1.1." to be bold, and the rest of the caption to be plain text. I can't use "control B" in-line, and am looking for something like (which doesn't work).

suggestions?  thanks.

Define a Character Format, perhaps named Bold, whose properties are As-Is for everything except Weight:Bold

Then in the Numbering properties for the caption para format, Apply Character Format: Bold

The numbering Format might be something like:
fig <$sectionnum>.<n+>.\␠

The balance of the caption should be in the default format for that para tag, with only the numbering bold.
