How to pick out "revised text" from FM documents?

We try to pick out "revised text" from compared FM files (made from utility-> file/book comparison) but now at a loss.

We tried to change condition tag display setting to "insert / delete", but it doesn't help; all texts are displayed on FM.

Should you know any clue to enable "revised text" picking, any idea would be appreciated.

Hi Yuhiko,

I am trying to understand what you want to do. As I get from this, you have done some changes in a file & compared it with the original file. Now, you want to just get the changed text from the generated compound document.

i.e.

File-1 has text, say "111 222 333".

File-2 has text, say "111 555 333"

so the compared file looks like:

compare.jpg

And from this you want to get out the revised text i.e. "555".

Is that what you are looking for ?

Hi Tarun,

Yes, it's what we are looking for!

And we would more appreciate if we can also get out the deleted text (in your example, "222" part).

Our project has at least four drafts, and we plan to ask to translate revised part only, draft by draft.

Kind regards,

Yuhiko

Hi Yuhiko,

As per my understanding, there is no direct way of doing this. But you can try the following workaround (assuming a single document):

1) After doing the comparison, a compound document is generated, say MyCMP.fm.

2) Add a new condition tag say MyTag to MyCMP.fm and apply it to the entire document.

3) Now, create a conditional expression - "Inserted"OR"Deleted"

4) Apply this expression. Only changed content will be displayed in the document.

5) Do the work as you need...

6) Delete MyTag to get back the original MyCMP.fm

I understand that this is not exactly what you want, but I hope this might be of some help to you.

One thing that I am not clear is that why do you need to get the deleted text for translation ?

Hi Tarun,

Thank you very much for informing us of the workaround. I will try it and see how it works.

Regarding the reason we need the deleted text also, it is partly word counting purpose, and partly checking purpose.

We need to check estimate from vendor is correct.

Thank you very much for your help!

Kind regards,

Yuhiko
