Old scenario:
Using FrameMaker 11, I create B&W objects(CGMs) generated in ISODraw with a black text (content) and color specific text (file name for editing purposes) in the object, (color is 194 115 143, a magenta-like color)
In FrameMaker 11 the graphic would be imported, and it would show the color text.
When ready to publish, I would go to view/color/views and switch to view 2, which would move 23.8-54.8-43.8-0 to the cutout box from the normal box.
This would ‘hide’ (turn the text white) the color text within FrameMaker as well as the color text in the objects. And of course upon creating a PDF, the color would not show.
The problem: New computer, new latest version of FrameMaker. Now when I follow those same steps, working on the 2011 version documents the color remains on newly inserted objects, but not on un-touched objects that were there from the 2011 version. Even if I add an old object it still will not hide the color text. And even when I put the new or old graphic on the old computer with FrameMaker 11 it hides the color as normal.
When creating a completely different color via color definitions, It works as normal for body text, but it still does not affect the text in the graphic.
I tried using ISODraw to create different formats; CGM, Jpegs, and adobe illustrator files. When importing all the different formats the results are the same, it still shows all the colors in the graphic. I also made graphics in photoshop and Illustrator, and imported them into the latest FrameMaker and the color text will not go white. So no matter what object format I use, and what program I use to create the object, the latest FrameMaker will not hide the colored text in the object.
I have spent hours trying to fix this to no avail. I have the old computer for a short period, and have compared what settings I can from the old version to the new version. I did not find anything. I am obviously missing something.
The only difference I could find is that the older objects that are already embedded that do hide the color, when clicked on, in the object properties, under facets it says: FrameVector and CGM. But under the newly imported objects and importing old objects, the facets say: PDF and CGM.
Other weirdness I ran into when using the new FrameMaker
New FrameMaker was not accepting the text in the newly added graphics. It would just show rectangles for each character. And for a funny twist, I had back rectangles for regular text and magenta rectangles for the colored text. I tried to add the ‘univers’ font to FrameMaker but the problem persisted. I then changed the font in the graphics via ISODraw for all new graphics going forward to use ariel and it accepted and shows the text now. However, it’s a tad fuzzy, and does not look like the text in the preexisting objects. BUT when printing and publishing to PDF it comes out fine.
Oh, and It is not actually checking cross-references when I update the book. A problem maybe you could help me address later?
-a completly new document from FMs templates reacts the same way.
-The greek screen setting is set to 7 and less. In older graphics the color font (size 6) is Greeked. but newer graphics the font (size 6) is not greeked
-Doesn't matter if it is imported by reference or copied into the document
-Once PDF'd if I copy the problematic text from the PDF and paste into word, it says the Font is "CairoFont-0-0" whereas the 'good' older/aready embeded object text from older graphics is listed as ArialMT.

See if the tips in ⎆this thread help.
I'm surprised that FM Color Views could affect the color in any imported object (other than an Inset), but it looks like ISOdraw CGM, if imported using the Itedo filter, could be treated the same as in-line FM framevector art. Whether it's keying on the name or the primaries in the object isn't something I'd have a guess about.

Hi,
You mention Univers in your description. I guess that this is not a Unicode font, but an old PostScript font. This would explain why you got rectangles instead of characters. With Arial you managed to get correct text. Very good. Ignore the changed Arial font name ArialMT. I also get this. If you are worried, search for "ArialMT" in this forum.
Greeked font: You can change this yourself in Edit | Preferences.
Cross-references not checked: When FrameMaker cannot open all files without showing a message (font not found or different colours or condition settings, etc.), then FrameMaker will not update the book. Therefore open all files of the book and then update the book. Then save and close all file
When FrameMaker does not hide a color in a graphics file, then this is probably a general issue. I tested this with EPS, SVG, PDF, PNG, and the color was hidden. Only the color of text got hidden. You might create a feature request in the Adobe Tracker. Then pos the link here. If someone needs this feature as well, he/she can vote for this.
Best regards
Winfried
